Stop # 1 – Unconditional Love

We have a song in our books that you’ll recognize. It’s title is “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.” We have used that song for years, but if you look at your Christianity as a journey one of the very first things you’ll run across as you “Follow Jesus” along this faith road is unconditional love.

Some of us don’t know much about unconditional love because it’s been rare in our lives. Your parents didn’t show it for you, your spouse hasn’t shown it for you and the people around you haven’t shown unconditional love for you. That’s why it is so amazing that it’s the first city we find on our faith road.

We need unconditional love! We need to know that someone, anyone loves us for who we are and not just for what we’ve done. It thrills us to know that even if our actions are less than exemplary someone out there hasn’t given up on us and are still in our corner hoping for us. We thrive off that affirmation from people who have sinned
and have lived a life contrary to who God wants them to be. Can you imagine a holy God who all of creation bows down to standing in your corner saying, “I
know you think you’re trash, but I made you in Our image and in my eyes you’re a priceless treasure!” That’s unconditional love! And that’s only the first
thing we meet when we decide to follow Jesus!

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5.8
