In 2nd Cor. 1.4 Paul clearly expresses a thought that is prevalent throughout Scripture. If God gives me something He expects me to be as generous with that as He was. If I receive comfort I should in turn reach out and comfort others. If I receive forgiveness I better be ready to forgive (Matt. 18.21-35, esp. V. 35). If I receive love I better love others (John 13.34-35).
God has been very generous with all of these things. In fact, Paul tells us in Romans that while I was still a sinner God moved toward me (Romans 5.8)! So when I was doing nothing but offending God with almost every thought He went out of His way (i.e. The cross) to bring me close to Himself.
I think an intricate part of knowing God rests on me being overwhelmed with thankfulness. When I’m thankful for the forgiveness He’s shown to me not holding other people’s mistakes against them is a natural response.
God has been very generous to you! Are you as generous with others as He’s been to you?
