A Great Plan

We are constantly assaulted by the world. Some of us have become pretty desensitized to it, but today as you work, drive, shop and watch t.v. notice how pervasive Satan has become in our world. His temptations are EVERYWHERE! I literally can’t go to the grocery store without seeing magazines of bikini clad women on the cover and while you’re in the line to check out, you’re surrounded! Turn on the t.v. and see if you can find a show that doesn’t sell their product with lust. Hollywood has been built on it!

I find myself comparing me to all the wrong standards too. Somehow without us noticing it Satan has set up 100’s of different standards for us to match up to and none of them have anything to do with God. He’s put these standards in place by showing us successful and beautiful people using an item. If we don’t have that item we’re not successful or beautiful. Think about it. A Lexus still has to sit at red lights and you’ve still got to pay for its gas. It’s not really any different from any other car except it’s been marketed well.

All that to say that Satan has figured out how to get us to transform into what he wants us to be. Put something in front of us so many times that it slyly works its way into our thinking.

It’s not a bad plan. In fact, God has the same plan for His Word. In Deuteronomy 6.4-7 God says,

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

His vision for how He was going to transform us was to put His word in front of us so much that it worked its way down into our being and changed us. They were supposed to teach their kids about God ALL the time! To change you need to saturate yourself with God’s Word. Put sticky notes with verses on your mirrors so you can memorize them, spend time with God every day reading and meditating on the Bible, teach someone else what you’ve learned from your study, have discussions in your home and with friends about what God is doing in your life, read a passage before you go to work and think about the implications of that passage all day.

God’s plan for transformation was all about quantity of time spent with Him and His Word. It’s a lot like quantity time vs. quality time with your family. There isn’t quality time without quantity time. You can spend 10 minutes reading the Bible everyday, but it’s kind of like coming home from work and spending 10 minutes with your wife, then going back to work. That won’t fly in your personal life and it’s not going to fly in your spiritual life either.

Quantity time = transformation.
