About Me

My name is Chris French. I’m the Young Adults Minister at the Northport church of Christ in Northport, AL.

I was born on April 26,1983, graduated from Waverly High School in 2002, graduated Freed-Hardeman University in 2006 with a B.S. in Bible and a Masters of Ministry in 2009 from FHU. In 2004 I married the awesomely beautiful and talented Kelly Hardin. We are now the proud parents of 5 dogs and two cats. I accepted a ministry position at the Northport church of Christ in August 2012.

One of my skills is organization. I like to know exactly how things are going to work out WAY before those things are going to happen. I don’t like not knowing what’s coming up. I am a sports nut. I recently found out that I enjoy golf, but I’ve loved basketball, baseball and racquetball for a long time. Oddly I don’t really like to watch these sports, but I do love to play them. I enjoy writing on my blog and reading, although the books are usually confined to ministry related reads, I also enjoy biographies, especially the ones that deal with American historical figures. I’m a big fan of David McCullough’s works. Fantasy novels are my guilty pleasure. My favorite series to date is the Wheel of Time work by the late Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. I really love to travel. We’ve visited El Salvador, Africa, New Zealand and Argentina along with several of the states. I’d rather see something new that’s pretty cool than something I’ve already seen that was awesome. You know those ostentatious giant things, like a 20 foot peanut or 30 foot cactus? I like those!

Like most people I also like to watch t.v. I’m really into Doctor Who right now and several other Sci-Fi shows, but I tend toward crime shows. You can contact me at chrisfrench@northportcoc.org, on my facebook or twitter which are linked above.

I got a grip on my anger in college and traced it back to it’s root cause. Now I monitor it very closely to make sure it’s not creeping back up on me. I’m thankful I’ve gotten to a point where people wouldn’t guess I’ve had anger problems in the past, but it’s been a lot of work. That’s the transforming power of Jesus though. He changes us to a point that we wouldn’t even recognize ourselves from 20 years ago. It took me a little while to figure out that controlling my anger wasn’t good enough. If I tried to control the behavior surrounding my anger eventually those angry outbursts would arise again. I had to let it go. By the time I met you guys I had already worked thru the majority of this and was in a monitoring stage. Now I find myself making excuses for people’s behavior and letting them off the hook when 20 years ago they would have made me furious. It’s definitely a process!

We miss you guys too! Everything is going well. Still adjusting to the weather patterns here, but it gives Kelly longer to enjoy her flowers so it’s a good thing.

Chris, I never never never would have thought you had an anger problem! You were always so “cool and collected” at Bethel. If an angry person can overcome to the extent that you say you did, I’m amazed. We miss you and beautiful Kelly. Hope all is well with you and that you are enjoying my great state of Alabama which will always be home to me. Vickey S.
